Privacy Policy

1. What this site is

Magic 8-Ball (“the Site,” “we,” “us”) is a free, for-fun web app. You type a yes-or-no style question, the 3D ball shakes, and you get a classic random answer. It is entertainment only—not advice, not medical or legal counsel, and not a prediction service with any real authority over your destiny.

2. What we collect (short version)

We designed this app to collect as little as possible. In particular:

  • Your questions and answers are handled in your browser. We do not require an account, and we do not operate a feature that stores your questions on our own database for later login.
  • Optional tips go through Stripe. If you tip, Stripe processes the payment—not us storing full card numbers on this Site.
  • Technical hosting data may be collected automatically by our host (for example Vercel) when you load the Site—things like IP address, browser type, and request logs used to run and secure the service.

3. Questions you type

When you ask the 8-Ball a question, the text lives in your browser session so the app can work. We do not sell your questions. We do not use them to build advertising profiles. If you prefer extra privacy, don’t type anything highly sensitive into any website—including this one.

4. Optional tips (Stripe)

The Site may offer an optional tip (“Tip the 8-Ball”). Tips are never required to use the 8-Ball. If you choose to tip:

  • You are redirected to Stripe Checkout, a payment service run by Stripe, Inc.
  • Payment card details are entered on Stripe’s pages and handled under Stripe’s Privacy Policy.
  • We may receive limited payment metadata (for example that a payment succeeded, amount, and basic receipt-related info) through Stripe’s tools so we know a tip was completed. We do not receive or store your full card number on this Site.
  • Minimum tip amounts may apply because of Stripe’s payment rules (currently at least USD $0.50 for typical card charges).

5. Device features (vibration)

On some devices (often Android browsers), the Site may use the browser’s vibration feature while the ball is shaking. That stays on your device. Many iPhones do not allow websites to vibrate. We do not use vibration to identify you.

6. Cookies and similar tech

The Site itself is built to keep tracking light. Still, you may encounter:

  • Cookies or storage needed for the app or hosting platform to function
  • Cookies or storage set by Stripe when you complete a tip checkout

We do not currently run third-party advertising networks on the Site. If that changes, we will update this policy.

7. Hosting and service providers

We rely on third parties to run the Site, which may process data on our behalf or as independent controllers of their own services, including for example:

  • Hosting / CDN (e.g. Vercel) — serves the website and may log technical requests
  • Stripe — optional payments

Those providers have their own privacy policies. We only use them to provide and improve this fun project.

8. How we use information

When we have access to technical or payment-related data, we use it to:

  • Operate, secure, and fix the Site
  • Process optional tips you choose to send
  • Understand basic reliability (e.g. that the site is up)
  • Comply with law if we are required to

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your 8-Ball questions for targeted ads.

9. Children

The Site is a general entertainment toy. It is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your region). Please do not use the tipping feature if you are not allowed to make online payments. If you believe a child provided personal data to us in a way that concerns you, contact us (see below) and we will help as reasonably possible.

10. Your choices

  • Use the 8-Ball without ever opening the tip dialog
  • Close the browser or clear site data anytime
  • Manage cookies and site data in your browser settings
  • For payment-related rights or card questions, contact Stripe or your card issuer as appropriate

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information, or to object to certain processing. Contact us and we will respond as required by applicable law and as practical for a small hobby project.

11. Security

We use reputable providers (HTTPS hosting, Stripe for payments) and try to keep the app simple. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. Please don’t send secrets you wouldn’t type into a fun website.

12. International visitors

The Site may be hosted and accessed from different countries. If you use the Site from outside the country where our infrastructure is located, your information may be processed in other regions subject to those providers’ practices and local law.

13. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy when the Site changes (for example if we add analytics or ads). The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy for future visits.

This policy describes this Magic 8-Ball website as a free entertainment app with optional Stripe tips. It is not legal advice. If you need formal counsel for your situation, ask a human lawyer (the 8-Ball declines that one).
